Saint Bernadine of Siena, a Franciscan friar, traveled by foot through Italy to restore the Peace of God to a feuding Italian people of all classes in the 15th century. The marketplace of every town was his pulpit, and he held the Christogram, IHS, Jesus Hominum Salvator, Jesus the Savior of Men, and around the letters wer painted golden rays. He asked the Italians to show the Jesus was their real Loard and that His Name was the one they should honor most. They were Christian and that was more important than being feuding families. (He exhorted them to place IHS in their homes and everywhere and remoce signs of feuding. IHS was sculpted, engraved in wood, painted on the facades of castles, homes, churches, hospitals, monuments, etc.)
Holy Name of Jesus lifted up above every name, joy of Angels, joy of the just, dread of Hell, in Thee lies all hope of forgiveness, all hop of grace, all hope of glory.
O Holy Name from Thee we received forgiveness of sin, a life with Christ, our hearts are on fire with the love of God and virtues abound, miracles are shown, strength in the combat of life, escape from every danger. Whenever a Christian hears the Holy Name, our heads bow and every time we say the Holy Name, too.
