Humility is a difficult virtue to practise because it goes against our natural inclinations, but there wasn't a saint who didn't have it. This prayer is to help us turn away from an inordinate love of attention and praise and to be strong in the face of humiliation so that we may truly be like Jesus, meek and humble of heart. The prayer is generally attributed to Cardinal Merry del Val, the Secretary of State for Pope St. Pius X.
