Our litany card honouring the Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary has a large picture of St. Anne de Beaupre on the front and a small image from a vintage lace holy card on the back. The shrine of Beaupre is definitely the most famous shrine to St. Anne in North America. In the 17th century, French sailors from Brittany found themselves in a terrible storm on the St. Lawrence River. Because St. Anne is the Patroness of Brittany, they invoked her protection and promised if she brought them safely to shore they would build a chapel in her honour. She did, of course, and that was the beginning of the shrine at Beaupre. So popular was devotion to her that she became the Patroness of Quebec, which is sometimes known as the Land of St. Anne. Let us follow these sailors' example in cultivating our own devotion to Good St. Anne.
